This experience takes place entirely within the Secwepemc Nation reservation, therefore there is no itinerary as such. You will simply spend the days working on projects with the people of the reservation, working with children, improving buildings and generally doing everything needed to support this traditional community. In total you will live on the reservation for 4 weeks.
It should be noted that the first day of your experience will include you flying into the local airport, where you will be met and taken to the reservation. This means that you will not need to organise any transportation once you have landed.
What is the accommodation like?
There are a number of different types of accommodation for this experience, meaning the accommodation will vary between apartments through to trailers. All of the different types of accommodation are comfortable and have everything you will need. It should be noted that only some accommodation has internet access.
Is food included in the price?
Food is not included, so you will need to bring enough money to support yourself for the entire trip. There are plenty of places around to buy food and all of the accommodation has a kitchen in which to prepare your gastronomical delights. Surrounding areas also have bars and restaurants, should you fancy a meal out.
Are flights included?
Flights are not included in this experience, so you will need to make your own way to Kamloops Airport, where you will be met by a representative from the scheme. If getting to Kamloops is proving to be tough, there are bus services running to there from Vancouver.
When should I arrive?
When you book this gap experience, you’ll be given a choice of different dates to choose from. You will then simply have to make sure you are in Kamloops on the agreed date. Many people arrive in Canada before this date though, so they can acclimatise and start to explore everything the country has to offer.
What should I bring?
Okay, this might be stating the obvious, but Canada is cold. Therefore you need to bring plenty of warm clothes for the duration of the trip. You should also make sure you bring a good pair of boots or other sturdy trainers, as you could be spending a lot of time working outside. Don’t worry about packing loads though, as there are facilities available for washing your clothes.
